Helloooooooooo Summer!!!!!

Summer Time is officially here! And it’s definitely HOT out there! Construction workers are especially susceptible to the effects of extreme heat. The headlines are all over the place “Deadly heat wave hits southwest”, “Intense Heatwave Kills Four, Feeds Southwest Wildfires”, “Heat wave produces record temperatures”.

What can you do to protect yourself? First of all, take a break and stop by the SUHBA office for a free cold drink! *see below for details

Next, you must realize in Southern Utah, we’re particularly used to seeing temperatures in the triple digits. But sometimes we still don’t respect it. Did you know most heat-related deaths investigated by OSHA involved workers who were on the job for three days or less? Training is KEY! In 2014 alone, 2,630 workers suffered from heat illness and 18 died from heat stroke and related causes on the job.

Here are some resources for you as you educate yourself and your workers on heat safety:

Remember, your invitation to stop by the SUHBA office still stands for a cold beverage on the house! #WeLoveOurMembers #RespectTheHeat

Visit our office Monday – Thursday, 9am – 5pm at 2303 N Coral Canyon Blvd. Ste 200. Exit 16 off I-15. We’re conveniently located across from Harley-Davidson.

SUHBA Members help Build Pavilion for Boy Scouts of America at Quail Creek

Marion D. Hanks Scout Camp at Quail Creek
June 7, 2016
An open house will be held for the public from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

A Ribbon Cutting & Dedication will be held on June 7, 2016 to celebrate the completion of the Marion D. Hanks Scout Camp at Quail Creek.  Southern Utah Home Builders Association (SUHBA) & the Boy Scouts of America have combined efforts to build the Pavilion/Training Center that is approximately 4,000 square feet and an outdoor amphitheater. Members of SUHBA and many businesses throughout Southern Utah have donated material and contributed countless hours to bring this project to completion. The Marion D. Hanks Scout Camp will continue to leave a lasting legacy in our community.

“It has been a pleasure to represent SUHBA in coordinating the efforts of its members in completing this project for the Boy Scouts of America. Only in Southern Utah can you get such amazing contractors to donate countless hours of time in an industry where time is more valuable than it has been in the last decade. Because of these generous efforts, the BSA has a resource to be able to do better what they do best; to turn our young kids into outstanding citizens and future leaders of our community.”  Jeff Madsen, Interstate Homes, Contractor for the Project

“The Southern Division of the Utah National Parks Council has been thrilled to work with the Southern Utah Home Builders Association in the building and completion of the 4,000 sq. ft. training center at the Marion D. Hanks Scout Camp at Quail Creek. This versatile building will serve over 15,000 young people registered in the scouting program with a corresponding 5000 adult volunteers from Beaver, Utah to Mesquite, Nevada. Events such as Cub Scout Day Camp, Wood Badge, Advance Leader Training, Spring and Fall Camporees, are just a few events already scheduled. The facility is a real community asset and is available for church groups, business get-a-ways and outdoor education.
Future development includes climbing tower, rope course, zip line, gate way, Donor Recognition Rock display and unit shelters. The property is not designed as a long term summer camp, but as a weekend and mid-week activity center.
We of the Boy Scouts of America organization, will be ever grateful to Southern Utah Home Builders Association for their contributions in the quality building of this project. This will be a lasting legacy to our young people and community.”  Paul Tikalsky, Field Director-Development Specials
